Cost of Studying in Canada

As many students consider relocating to Canada to further their education, one of their primary concerns is the amount it will cost them to study and live in Canada in relation to their budget to enable them to prepare their minds towards their expenses for their time abroad.

Well, you do not need to bother about high tuition fees, as all universities in Canada are publicly funded through the provincial government.

Canada is among the most affordable of the leading study destinations for international students; it offers lower tuition than the US, the UK, and Australia.

The Figure below shows a chart of the cost of studying in Canada when compared to other advanced countries in the world:

Canada is known for having relatively low tuition fees, and international students studying in Canada can work and study at the same time on-campus or off-campus to cover up their cost of study.

The cost of studying in Canada is dependent on: whether you are an international or indigenous student, what program you plan to study, and if you’re studying at an undergraduate or postgraduate level.

In 2019/2020, there was a decline by an average of 5.3% for domestic undergraduate students, and there was an increase of about 7.6% for international undergraduates in the cost of tuition fees, and this report is from Statistics Canada.

A Canadian citizen studying in Canada should expect to pay an average of $6,400 annually to obtain an undergraduate degree, and $7,000 annually to earn a graduate degree.

Approximately the annual cost of studying in Canada for international students are as follows:

  • University: $9,000 to about $60,000 depending on the field and level of study (Statistics Canada)
  • College: $7,000 to $30,000 depending on the institution and choice of study.
  • Language: $15,400 (based on 44 weeks per annum and $350/week on an average)
